A member of Italy's Democratic Party (PD) shows a banner which translates as 'Grandfather by day, pig by night, Silvio get some treatment' during a protest against Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi as they demand his resignation in front of the Palazzo Ghigi in central Rome on January 19, 2011. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi laughed off an enquiry into lurid new sex allegations including ties with an underage girl as magistrates were blocked from raiding his offices.

Tunisia : Protesters burn furniture during a clash with riot police

Protesters burn furniture during a clash with riot police in Cite Ettadhamen near the Tunisian capital Tunis. Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali fired his interior minister on Wednesday after a deadly wave of violent unrest, the biggest in decades, reached the capital for the first time. People taking part in the unrest say they are angry about unemployment, corruption and what they say is a repressive government. Officials say the protests have been hijacked by a minority of violent extremists who want to undermine Tunisia.
